Description:

Since Play is the language of the child, it is very important for therapists to understand the process and interpretation of the play with regard to preschoolers. This workshop will focus on the process, engagement, enhancement, and facilitation that the play therapist could use to help preschoolers heal. Teaching a child to play will also be covered with respect to those preschoolers who have had play disruption or no pretend play. Participants need to familiarize themselves with the developmental issues that are ongoing during these preschool years. DVD presentations will be provided to illustrate different methods.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the limitations of preschoolers in play therapy.
  • Explain how to use the therapeutic powers of play to help preschoolers.
  • Identify what techniques can be used with preschoolers.
  • Describe the process involved in the play therapy treatment of preschoolers.
  • Demonstrate how to follow the lead of a child in play and when to intervene in play therapy.
  • Discuss how to re-teach preschoolers how to play again after play disruption.
