Description:

The development and use of metaphors create a bridge of connection between the listener and the therapeutic message within the story or activity. Focusing on an Ericksonian resiliency-focused perspective, we will look at how to use real-life experiences, cultural stories, and elements of nature as metaphors that can facilitate transformational healing, balance, and wellness for children who are facing life and learning challenges. Included will be examples showing how metaphors can connect to the innate gift of childhood curiosity and discovery.

Learning Objectives:

1. Describe how storytelling in play therapy is healthy for the brain and emotional development.

2. Learn how to release your inner storyteller using four steps to develop a narrative in Play Therapy.

3. Utilize everyday experiences as stories to help children and teens in Play Therapy.

4. Identify how traditional cultural stories enrich the lives of children and teenagers in Play Therapy.

5. Utilize elements of nature to create a storytelling metaphor in play therapy.
