Description

Completing accurate session notes is an important part of play therapy practice, yet play therapists often struggle with adapting talk therapy notes to the play therapy world. The documentation dragons can quickly become larger than necessary and create anxiety for the play therapist! This training will highlight a wide range of play therapy documentation needs, from intake to termination. Learn about specific adjustments that should be made for play therapy treatment notes, writing treatment plans with your theoretical orientation in mind, tracking play themes across sessions, and how to develop written plans for parent consultations and feedback. Suggestions will be made to create your own fillable templates to meet the needs of your play therapy practice, preparing you to conquer your documentation dragons!

Learning Objectives 

  1. Identify at least 3 key documentation needs for play therapy sessions.
  2. Identify at least 4 key components of a play therapy treatment plan.
  3. Identify at least 2 ways in which play therapy session notes can differ depending upon theoretical orientation.
  4. Develop a “themes in play therapy” session note tracker to use in play therapy documentation.
