Like play, stories and the use of stories have been part of humans’ everyday existence since the beginning of humankind. (Murray, S. 2020). The use of stories are an essential aspect of Play Therapy and are a vital skill for a Play Therapist.  This workshop will look at the therapeutic use of stories in Play Therapy. This experiential workshop will explore the different types of story use and the beneficial aspects for both the child and the Play Therapist. It will examine the neuroscience of the use of stories and how stories can bring about turning points and change.

  • Discuss why Play Therapist use stories in Play Therapy
  • Explain the therapeutic role of stories in Play Therapy
  • List the therapeutic powers of stories
  • Identify the developmental stages of stories linked with play
  • Demonstrate skills in the therapeutic use of stories in Play Therapy
