Description:
Techniques add to the tools that play therapists use to help children resolve their psychological difficulties. In this webinar, a wide variety of play techniques will be described, including fantasy techniques, storytelling techniques, expressive art techniques, play toys/objects techniques, and group play techniques. These play tools all meet the criteria of being specific, practical, and relatively easy to implement. In addition, they are based on solid theoretical frameworks and extensive practical applications by play therapists around the world. They should be of interest to beginning and experienced play therapists of all theoretical orientations.


Learning Objectives:

  • Name three play therapy techniques that can be used to help children communicate better
  • Use play therapy techniques that are useful in school settings with individuals or groups
  • Name the difference between play therapy and talk therapy as it relates to children’s traumas
  • Name play therapy techniques that are used to help children learn new information
  • Illustrate the child’s play therapy treatment through various techniques.
  • Learn how to create techniques for specific populations.

Heidi Gerard Kaduson Ph.D., RPT-S

Dr. Heidi Gerard Kaduson is a licensed clinical child psychologist in New York and New Jersey. She received her Ph.D. from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She specializes in the evaluation and intervention services for children with a variety of behavioral, emotional, and learning problems.

Dr. Kaduson uses Play Therapy for individual counseling, group psychotherapy, and social skills training. She has lectured throughout the world on Play Therapy, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Pervasive Developmental Disorders, and Learning Disabilities. She has trained and/or supervised thousands of individuals around the world. Dr. Kaduson is Past-President and a past-Member of the Board of Directors of the National Association for Play Therapy, as well as the Director of The Play Therapy Training Institute.
