Description:
The pressures and disappointments inherent in striving for the unattainable goal of perfection can result in considerable anxiety for children and parents alike. This seminar will cover the sources of perfectionism in children as well as the ways it can contribute to anxiety and maladaptive behavior patterns. Participants will learn various intervention approaches, including Play Therapy, Filial Therapy, storytelling techniques, and cognitive-behavioral play therapy methods which have been applied to children, adolescents, and parents with perfectionism-related difficulties.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe how the therapeutic powers of play allow for the reduction of anxiety through play therapy treatment.
  • Discuss how to integrate play therapy approaches for children with perfectionism.
  • Demonstrate play therapy techniques to lower anxiety and allow for mistakes in family and school by joining the child in non-directive play therapy.
  • Discuss the needs of perfectionistic children and how to use play therapy to help them.
