Description:
Children begin forming beliefs about themselves early in life. Due to the pressures of competition in sports as well as school achievement, children can be at risk of developing low self-esteem. Low self-esteem can be from the child having a poor self-image caused by a number of factors in their environment. The relationship of self-esteem to school achievement, crime, violence, and suicide emphasizes the need to help enhance a child’s self-esteem. When children have high self-esteem, they are more confident and happy. This workshop will cover facts about self-esteem, how play therapy can help enhance it, and also what parents and teachers can do to protect it.
Learning Objectives:
- List 2 play therapy techniques that enhance self-esteem.
- Apply self-esteem play therapy techniques for various disorders.
- Discuss the benefits of involving parents in play therapy for self-esteem.
- Compile a list of affirmations for children to use in play therapy.
- Define areas of self-esteem that play therapy can help children understand.
- List 3 therapeutic powers of play that enhance self-esteem
