Three Webinar Overview:

It is my belief that treating children and adolescents cannot begin from a primary focus on diagnosis in play therapy. Their tender sensory perceptions, challenging life experiences, physiological implications, together with innate personality traits and cultural values must be considered in developing a mindset of healing and resilience. With the restorative essence of the child’s inner resources, sensory preferences, and play at its center, this series of three (3) play therapy webinars will focus upon the creation and utilization of Storytelling, Artistic, and StoryCraft Metaphors that can be at the heart of numerous multi-sensory play therapy interventions.

All approaches can be used in a variety of settings and with the favored treatment modality; i.e., sand tray, music, art, etc. Each of these three-hour webinars will include case examples to illustrate application, along with interactive exercises.

Description: Session II – Sensory Attunement in Play Therapy

The need to help children who experience sensory disregulation issues is a major emphasis in play therapy. This webinar will highlight ways in which to recognize and utilize (1) the gifts of a child’s sensory preferences/resources; (2) the challenges that generate “out-of-conscious” sensory blocks; (3) so that the metaphors and experiential activities offered in play therapy sessions will nurture a deep sense of attunement to a child’s inner and outer world. Case examples and an activity for creating inner harmony will be included.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize a child’s conscious sensory preferences in Play Therapy sessions.
  • Learn how to identify and utilize two sensory minimal cues in play therapy.
  • Identify one way to ascertain a child’s blocked sensory system in play therapy.
