Description:
Assessment in play therapy is more than diagnosis. Through play, practitioners can observe children’s coping skills, frustration tolerance abilities, ego strength, developmental levels (cognitive, social, and moral), and so much more. This workshop is intended to introduce play therapists to the use of board and card games for informal assessment of these domains. You’ll see multiple card games and board games in action and learn key points to observe and consider in assessment of the client’s entire presentation through play therapy. Games will be appropriate for multiple ages from 6 through adult. See some old favorites from an assessment lens and learn some new games to keep in your repertoire!
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this training, participants will be able to…
1. identify at least 4 areas of assessment that can be accomplished through play therapy.
2. identify at least 2 games that can be used in play therapy assessment for each area of assessment.
3. discuss at least 3 benefits of utilizing games in play therapy assessment
