Description:

The creative process is within all of us, but it is at times difficult to access. When working with children in play therapy, the key to success is the relationship. Many children find it difficult to connect and trust any adult who only uses talk therapy. The therapeutic relationship is the key to change, and the playful self along with the therapeutic powers of play can help connect with the children through play therapy. This workshop will illustrate the usefulness of play therapy and the playful self, as well as allow for the creative process to flow for the therapist. Being with the child in play therapy allows for him or her to go deeper into psychological difficulties, formulate strategies and successfully heal. Humor and laughter are keys in reducing anxiety in the playroom, as well as allowing the playful self to emerge.

Learning Objectives:

Describe 3 characteristics of a playful play therapist.

Identify the therapeutic powers of play that work to increase the creative self.

List 2 ways to help the creative process evolve.
